Welcome to Frisco Music Teachers Association's 2008-2009 academic year! As we begin our fifth year, we have several great opportunities for teachers and students alike. As I look forward to the coming year, I am encouraged by the high level of playing I hear at our festivals and the level of professionalism the Frisco Music Teachers display.

Our organization is always open to new members. If potential members do not meet the qualifications for full membership, they may become provisional members. Provisional members have five years to complete the academic requirements for full membership, or to complete the certification process to become a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) through Music Teachers National Association, our parent organization. Certification guarantees that a teacher meets minimum standards of knowledge and performance, and assures parents and students that the teacher is qualified in the teaching of music.

I would like to especially thank two people in our community: Dr. Kimberley Harris and Collin County Community College District Preston Ridge Campus for allowing us to use the facilities for our Festivals, Theory Tests, and Trophy Competition, and Amanda Anderson, manager of Music And Arts in Frisco, for allowing FMTA to use space in the store for the FMTA drop box.

Wishing you all a positive and memorable year,
Kristin K. Yost, NCTM
